Discover the wine-tasting basics - Private

At an agreed time, our wine expert meets you in front of the Court of Justice building  in Lyon Old Town Lyon - 23 Quai Romain Rolland. After the presentations, walk 5 minutes to rue Saint-Jean and then enter our private tasting room.

The wine tasting introduction course begins with a flask game where participants have to find the different wine aromas. We will also discuss about wine defects.

Then the different stages of wine-tasting are described with an introduction to the gestures and wine vocabulary:

Look: Is the wine clear or cloudy, bright or lifeless, intense or not deep? What is its color and its hue.

Smell: first, breathe the wine's aromas in a series of light sniffs. Then swirl the wine around the glass and repeat the process. Do you smell fruits, flowers, vegetables, spices, etc.?

Taste: put the wine in your mouth and assess acidity, bitterness and learn to describe tannins. Are they soft, pleasant, harsh or silky? Is the wine well-balanced? How long does it stay in your mouth?

Our facilitator gives each participant a notebook with tasting sheets, a glossary and a summary of the information given.

Then in good humor, humor and conviviality, the tasting begins with 6 wines on the program:
1 sparkling wine: crémant de Bourgogne or champagne;
2 whites: a Chardonnay and a Viognier;
2 Reds: a gamay and a more robust syrah;
1 Dessert wine: Banyuls or late harvest;

For each wine tasted, participants put into practice their newly acquired wine knowledge and exchange with our wine expert who uses simple and precise vocabulary.

A platter of cheeses and charcuterie from the Lyon region accompanies the tasting and allows surprising food and wine pairings.
