Visit of Lyon old town

At 10:00 am, meet our guide in front of the Court of Justice - 24 Columns building located in Lyon Old Town.

Begin the walking tour with short visit of Saint-Jean Cathedral, a magnificent example of Gothic architecture.

Then, take a delightful journey through times past with a stroll through the coobled streets and traboules of Vieux Lyon.  Your guide will tell you about Lyon fascinating history and how the city became the European Capital of silk during the Renaissance period.

For around 1h45, at your own pace, discover the must-see attractions of Old Lyon including La Tour Rose, Du Boeuf Street, The Change Square, St Jean Street, etc. And of course, several Traboules, these Lyon's secret covered passageways which reveal beautifull staircases and hidden courtyards. 

During the walking tour, our guide tells you about the famous characters of Lyon history including Guignol, our favorite puppet, and of course, Lyon's gastronomy!

By the way, it is almost noon, it is time for the Lyonnais machon...

Tasting of a Lyonnais machon

In the company of your guide, push the door of a miraboule passageway and enter a private apartment to savor a typical Lyonnais machon.

The word "machon" named after the verb “to chew”, dates from the 19th century, a time when workers in the Lyon silk factories would make the most of their first break of the day with some snack type breakfast..

Today, the machon is part of Lyon's gastronomic heritage and often just an excuse to meet with friends and spend a good time together around a platter of cold meats, cheeses with nice wines.

The visit to Old Lyon ends with our homemade machon, a plate with Lyonnais sausage, local cheeses including Cervelle de Canut, Beaujolais & Côtes du Rhône wine and a piece of praline tart.
